This page is intended to give consumers a brief idea of the state-by-state legislative activity that has some bearing on funeral-related and end-of-life issues, but we lack the staff to keep it a current as we would like. If you would like to do your own legislative research, you can do so on-line. To reach the state of Vermont's home page, I would type: "http://www.state.vt.us"-- for another state, simply change the two-letter state abbreviation. From there, pick "Legislature" to find the bills for the current session. If you don't know a bill number, you can usually search by topic, like "funeral" or "cemetery." When you find additional pending bills or regulations that we don't have listed, please e-mail the information to fca@funerals.org. This under-staffed office will be extremely grateful for the help! If you do find there are issues of importance to you here, be sure to write your legislators or plan to testify at any hearings. Those with a goal to maximize industry profit spend big bucks on lobbyists. The average voter, however, can be equally effective by becoming informed and speaking up. |
