Incorrect info on a headstone

My sister died in June and her husband ordered a headstone with the wrong wedding anniversary date (if you can believe that) and he had a Star of David engraved by my sister’s name. He doesn’t know the meaning behind the star, he only uses it (he also wears a ring) because his name is David. Neither of them are Jewish. My niece (my sister’s daughter) is very upset with the mistakes, along with the rest of the family. Can we, as family, refuse to put the marker on the grave and replace it with something else that is correct? Thank you for any advice….
