PRINCETON — When Cheryl Clark’s mother died at a nursing home in Maine five years ago, Clark didn’t call the coroner or funeral home to have them take the body away.
Instead, she took her mother to the family’s nearby summer home, “the home of our heart,” as she calls it. And before she drove the body back to southeastern Pennsylvania for the funeral, she held a final farewell celebration.
“I showed up and said, I’m bringin’ mom in. She’s spending the night here one more time,” Clark said, laughing. “We invited the neighbors and made blueberry pancakes and cried and laughed and told stories. It turned out to be an amazing evening together.”
