The beginning of the book is essentially an analysis of the funeral industry as it is today, the types of things funeral directors are trained in and the ways they are taught to think. It reminded me a bit of a modern version of Jessica Mitford’s American Way of Death. However, the tone is a bit less accusatorial than Mitford’s book, and instead takes a more educational approach. It is great for understanding what you will truly face from a cultural perspective when dealing with most funeral directors.
