An Industry View Point
Over the roughly seventeen years that the Funeral Rule (“the Rule”) has been around, it has caused quite a bit of chaos and confusion in the death care industry. Not because the industry was rife with fraud and deceptive dealings as many “consumer advocates” would have us believe, but because its vague and confusing language paired with its confusing enforcement have been a challenge to the most conscientious operator.
There is now a call by some to expand the Funeral Rule. As a part of this, the Rule itself is being examined for its efficacy and whether it is even necessary at all. Most death care providers are very passionate about the Rule; either they hate it and want it abolished all together, or they hate it and they want it expanded to everyone in the industry, so all will suffer equally.
