Funeral Home logos in obituaries

A survey of itemized funeral bills will not indicate a separate line item for advertising because the families should not be, and usually are not charged for it. May I suggest that you poll various obituaries, their costs and the costs forwarded to the families ~ you may find that the funeral home was charged a higher amount than what they forwarded to the family, as the funeral home removed the fee for the logo since it was not requested by the family. For example, perhaps the fee to the funeral home was $95 but the fee on the itemized funeral bill was only $75, as the funeral home pays for its own advertising. Most in funeral service do believe that it is not only unlawful but, most importantly, unethical(!) to forward such a cost to a family. Therefore, if you find a funeral home that is not removing the logo fee from the charges to the family, then I request that you please report that firm to FTC. ~Ginny Sanzo – Funeral Director
