“Can’t Afford To Die”

Another way to save money on a funeral is to buy cemetery plots ahead of time from individuals rather than be at the mercy of the funeral homes at time of death.  Many people have moved out of town/state and no longer can use the plots they purchased years earlier.  Most cemeteries will not buy back these plots and they go unused for years and years. These people would love to sell their plots – usually at a great savings to the buyer.

This is really wise if you know you will be needing a plot in the near future and if you know for certain you will not be moving out of town.

There are usually many plots listed on Craigslist. I sold mine on Craigslist!  Check them out!  Do comparative shopping!  Make an offer!  Of course, use good judgment as with any big purchase. Be sure there is a deed available and make the sell/transfer through the cemetery so they will have the record and can change the deed/ownership.  Don’t pay cash!
