The trouble with pet trusts with gene

The trouble with pet trusts with generous payouts is that Fido or Felix, being 10 years old at their pet parents’ death, invariably live 20 or more years therafter.  It is also amazing how there are not so subtle changes in the color of their fur over time.

I just use a lump sum payment clause in the will to a pet loving friend.  I had one estate (Hager Estate of Lanc.Co., PA Hager Dept. store family) where the beneficiaries actually directed the bank/executor to give the dear friend of their Aunt Mary the nice sum in her will just for agreeing to take of the animals, even though both the cat and the dog died in Aunt Mary’s care.
