Why, in God’s name, would anyone want to visit cemeteries? For us it began with a woman, and a name: Patience McMaster. We liked her name….
I’ve learned a lot about cemeteries along the way. I can’t claim any expertise other than locally, but I do know that we humans have many ways of viewing and dealing with death.
I have learned that death is a process, not an event. That death is only an event for the one who dies. For those who survive, it is something we get used to. In parts of Africa it is said that people experience two deaths: one when their body dies, and the other when the last person who knew them dies. Cemeteries are living testimony to that.
