Our (sixteen siblings) mom dies in California, living with our sister who had Conservatorship of the person. Mom expressed that her remains be cremated, mixed with dad’s and our brother’s ashes. Mom has seven days with Hospices, dies with out any notice to the rest of us, and is cremated before any of us are notified. Now our sister is holding on to the ashes of mom, dad and brother until she decides that the time is right; which she says may take years. Does she have a legal right to hold hostage the ashes of our beloved as a sole legal right?
