I am member of the local chapter of FCA -(Eastern Massachusetts) and have been for about four years. I consider some of the work that you’ve done over the past few years as invaluable. I would especially note the piece on the oversupply of funeral homes here in the USA: “An Over-saturated Market -2014”. An excellent statistical summary! However, it would help if you could take 20 minutes and clean up the column headings in your table of results for easier readability! One question on that: Where did you get the information on the number of funeral homes in each state, and how often is that information updated? I have tried to get this information from our local (MA) State Board of Registration of Funeral Directors and Embalmers to no avail. They neither return phone calls nor answer e-mails. So what is your secret? I also have anecdotal evidence here that for the past ten years the number of funeral homes has been shrinking, at least here in the Boston area. I’ve also heard from a few local undertakers that the combination of recent trend toward cremation and the recent lousy economy has negatively impacted the funeral business and has resulted in a lot of establishments in either folding or merging with others in the same area. Does this trend also exist in other areas of the country? Finally, I recently received a fund-raising letter from you and got the feeling that for some reason, you are really desperate for funds these days. I am perhaps more familiar with the details of your work than some of our other supporters. I suspect that very few of our fellow members log on to “funerals.org” to see what’s new -even on a monthly basis. I would therefore suggest to list some of your on-going efforts and recent accomplishments in your semi-annual fund-raising letters to show our members and other readers what are dollars are actually buying when they contribute to FCA! Happy New Year and good luck, Tom Einstein tomatlex@gmail.com
