Many Funeral Consumers Alliance affiliates conduct annual or biennial surveys of prices that funeral homes in their area charge for various type of services. Prices are obtained from the funeral homes’ General Price Lists (GPLs). FTC regulations require that a funeral home give you a GPL upon request. If your location is not covered in the following table, you can conduct your own price comparison by requesting a General Price List over the phone or by visiting the funeral home in person. You may discover that the price for an identical service (direct cremation, for example) can vary by thousands of dollars. It definitely pays to plan ahead and shop around!
